Well I have somehow gained alot of cleaning work since I been back and done with vacation. But 1st and foremost this turle tank MUST be cleaned! I have changed the mulch and our poor turtle Angel (boy) took a while to get used to it and I found out just how messy this fine powdery stuff can be. So we have reverted back to the bark. This is before and it is disgusting how bad it got! He is eating papaya...
We have 2 turtles now so I bought a bigger water pan, That grassy mossy stuff is for Angel to sleep under it. He loves it!
Now DH brought Jelena another turtle home friday night before vacation. We were a little worried about it wondering how Our turtle Angel would feel about this since we had him for 2 yrs and he has been alone for this long. We weren't sure what the sex of it was either. So We put them both on the floor and watched them. Angel's neck came way out he looked and litterally was running toward the other turtle. It was quite funny and scary at the same time! Yes turtles can be quite fast! We lost our 1st one because the kids took it outside and within seconds of their eyes off it, it dissapeared! Dh actually dug up the yard looking for it so now these guys won't be seeing the grass.... Lol!
Anyways, imagine our shock when Angel was going after the other turtle, We named her Lilly. We weren't sure of the sex and were so scared as we watched Angel biting at her...I immediately went on the internet and looked up sexing turtles...This is actually how they mate. I think we are all learning a sex education here...LOL! It said that males will bite the females shell, and their necks. Well Lilly was no where to be found. she was so burried in her shell and was NOT coming out for anything. I asked my DH don't they introduce each other 1st? That is so crazy! haha
We watched them for a while as Angel looked viscious here there was no way anyone wanted to touch him at this state....would you? As we left them alone We came back to check on them periodically and this is how we found them. Now honestly I have never, and still do not get it...Perhaps babies may be in the near future?LOL! I will let you know! So poor Lilly does, She doesn't get much away time and much to my surprise she was out of her shell and Angel was leaving her alone as he was studying this fake turtle yard ornament I bought for them...he was quite intriqued with it...

Those are cute. It's hard to get turtles up here anymore. I think they're illegal or something. I remember hearing that years ago.
